Last Day of Civilization

[Chris] We awoke to another fine breakfast of omelets and fried potatoes prepared by Jack. We set out early for our last needed supplies before we started all the activities planned for the day. We hit up GI Joes outdoor store and REI for some dehydrated food, power bars, and a good water filter to replace our old one. We also found Jack a salon that was open on sunday morning for a quick cut before we hit the trails.

We headed down to Lake Washington for their annual Sea Fair. Jack had gotten us a last minute invite to a very nice party after we told him that we would like to see the Blue Angels yesterday on the phone. The party was at a very nice house with a large balcony over looking Lake Washington. They had a large band and tons of food including some amazing ribs, sausage, fish, wings and much more. The lake was filled with hundreds of boats loaded with people and tied to the floating log barriers around the hydroboat racing track. Throughout the day the boats would start racing and fly around the track throwing jets of water hundereds of feet.

We then got our hands on some pit passes at the party and decided to check it out before the airshow began. Matt and I ran down the hill to take a
walk through the hydroboat pits. With our pit passes we were able to walk right in to the restricted shoreline where all of the boats and their huge hauling trucks were sitting. Pretty amazing seeing some of those boats up close and watching the crews work on them and raise and lower them into the water.

As we were in the pits the airshow began. We ran back up the hill to the party to have an aerial view of the entire lake from the balcony. The Blue Angels started soon after that. It was hard to comprehend just how close the 6 planes were flying in their different formations. They put on an amazing show for the thousands of boats and spectators lining the lake. They even shut the I-90 floating bridge to allow for the show to span the entire lake.

Once the Blue Angels were done we said our goodbyes at the party and headed to the Mariners game. We listened to it on the radio as we fought the traffic leaving the airshow. We arrived do
wntown and found a parking space about 10 blocks from the stadium. We high tailed it down the hill and to the will call window where we had 3 amazing terrace level tickets with our names on them. Again, Jack pulls through with his contacts and we watch the last two innings of the game from some awesome seats. It was a very nice field with a huge retractable roof and a nice view of down town Seattle and the space needle. The home team ended up losing by 1 run with the tieing run standed on second base, good game.

Headed home via the express lanes which ran via tunnels and bridge lanes suspended below the main level of the freeway. Very nice freeway system but I am glad we don't have a need for that level of traffic control in Iowa. I am thankful for the Des Moines traffic even during the I235 construction.

We arrived back home for some fresh salmon dip and nachos. We're in the process of finishing our packing and deciding just how much of the food we bought today that we want to carry. Will be on the road by 6AM to head for the northern loop trail on Mt. Rainier. Have 4 days planned on the trail before we head to the Olympic Pennisula to do some hiking along the coast. We will finish the trip with a hike to the top of Mt. St. Helens which should be a good finale.

Last posts until Thursday night when we will be back in town to clean clothes and restock our food.
